The best chocolates

I am a chocolate snob. I do not like candy bars or mainstream chocolate—and most definitely not any supermarket brands. So please trust me when I say I’ve discovered the best chocolates. My friend Laurie and I have met here on a whim: who needs a special occasion to enjoy chocolates, especially ones handmade every day with fresh (and often exotic) ingredients?

The genius behind these amazing morsels? Her name is Kee Lee Tong, and she left her corporate job to pursue her passion for making handmade chocolate—and we are so glad she did.

Stop by her adorable, minimalist shop in Soho (I haven’t been to the midtown outpost) for a chocolate treat. These are not your standard chocolates; they are filled with jasmine tea, crème brulée (she of course makes all the fillings herself), candied kumquat, balsamic, and my favorites: coconut, blood orange and Earl Grey (shown above).

Simply calling them chocolates doesn’t do them justice when they are such exquisite creations—they are chocolates elevated to a whole new realm.
