I don’t know why, but I’m one of those holiday shoppers who start shopping late in the game. Maybe it’s because I don’t like having to buy so many gifts all at once and I get overwhelmed. This is much to my detriment, because by the time I start shopping, it’s too late to order on line and the stores here in NYC are so unbearably crowded.
This year I am attempting to get ahead of myself. One of my favorite gifts to give around the holidays is a wine subscription, along with some nice wine glasses. I wish everyone I knew loved wine, not just because it’s so easy to buy wine online, but also because it’s the kind of gift an oenophile can enjoy from many months to a year. Most of the wine clubs I’ve researched deliver a bottle or two a month for a designated amount of time that you choose, usually 3, 6 or 12 months. And the clubs can vary, from well-known to those from small vineyards to international and rare wines—so there’s a bottle for every taste.
I love so many grape varietals, but especially reds that are spicy with lots of tannins. I love big buttery whites. I also love barolo and barbaresco and gewurztraminer and viognier. So if my family or friends are reading this, hint, hint…
