In my family there are so many January birthdays that I’ve been pondering what gifts to give. What comes to mind first are chocolates. Not just any chocolates, but a box originally manufactured by Walt Disney and flown in from Switzerland. These ganache truffles are made at Sprüngli, a renowned Swiss factory, for the gorgeous Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich, which happens to be where Walt Disney stayed in 1969—thus the depiction of Donald Duck and his uncle having lunch at the hotel and fighting over the check. How adorable.
And who will be enjoying these chocolates? My grandmother, my niece, my best friend’s daughter? They may be reading, so I’m not telling yet.
