The 5 items you must get at hungryroot {a new shop in NYC}

After a few days of meeting up with friends and indulging in such things as truffle fries, cheeseburgers and cheese plates, I wanted to eat healthy. It can be an ordeal when you’re an on-the-go mom (even for one who loves to cook), which is why I was excited to attend the opening of Hungryroot, a new store in NYC’s Flatiron. Hungryroot is an online company that delivers fresh packaged food. Now New Yorkers can come in to buy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.

After making a few lunches and dinners using Hungryroot ingredients, I am already addicted to this place. It was so easy it was to mix and match the ingredients–with virtually no preparation.

This is the first brick and mortar store for Hungryroot, an online company that delivers fresh packaged food. Now that I’ve seen in person what it’s all about, I am excited to be a customer, whether in person or online.I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to mix and match the ingredients I picked up at Hungryroot–with virtually no preparation.

Here are five must-try items from Hungryroot. If you’re in NYC, stop by the store and if not, check out their web site.

1. Thai Peanut Sauce
This Thai Peanut Sauce is out of the world. I dolloped some on top of the superblend salad, a mix of Brussels Sprouts, Napa Cabbage, Kohlrabi, Broccoli, Carrots, and Kale, then topped the salad with the seed sprinkle. So good!

2. Overnight Oats
Can you say super easy breakfast? The banana bread overnight oats are so tasty you’ll want to eat this everyday. There are other oats as well, including cherry chia maple oatmeal and maple raisin pumpkin pie oats.

3. Vegetable noodles or rice
If you want to eat more vegetables, try substituting them with such Hungryroot items as broccoli or cauliflower rice or beet or butternut squash noodles. Pair these with one of many sauces such as superfood tomato or kale pesto for an easy healthy dinner.

4. Hot Smoked Roasted Salmon
Serve warm with a side of vegetables or break it up, cold, into a salad. Either way, the hot smoked roasted salmon is a must-buy purchase for its buttery-smoky flavor.

5. Cookie Dough
Wondering what to eat for dessert but don’t want to indulge? Hungryroot has three options: oatmeal spice, brownie batter, and almond chickpea. You can bake into cookies or eat the healthy dough with a spoon. And these are treats that are healthy: they’re made with such ingredients as chickpeas, maple syrup, sunflower butter, oats, and currants.
